The lovely MA snowfall has done a number on our deck. My dad did a long-distance diagnosis of cracks in the support beams or pads. So it looks like we'll need to rip it out and start all over.
I called my insurance company, but it's not covered since it's considered a patio. Womp womp.
DH decided that he didn't want to spend any money. So he wants to rip it out, put just a small deck off the kitchen door, and leave the rest of it as dirt. Um, no. It's totally trashed down there. Plus when the previous owners put up the deck, they also put on new siding. But left the old siding from deck level down. So I'd be stuck with the redneck backyard including missing siding in places where the deck used to be.
Then I call 3 places about coming to look at it. So far only one has returned my call. He's coming tomorrow.
I posted about it on my MOMS group FB page, and one woman said her FIL does decks, she can let me know when he can swing by. I heard voices outside an hour ago, and didn't think anything of it. All of a sudden I got a PM from the woman saying, "Hey, my FIL is there, are you home?" Um, I'm not going to drop work to talk to some random stranger who came over without telling me. Let me know before hand that your FIL is coming by, and I'd be happy to set up a time.

This winter ruined so many things. We just relined our swimming pool 3 summers ago and somehow the way the ice froze in the swimming pool it cut a nice hole in the liner. The friggen pool company will not call me back either.
That sucks about your deck. They're not cheap to re-do unless you're DIYing.
I feel like contractors have it made this year. With all the ice dam damage amongst other things they have enough work to last them through the summer. That's probably the reason why people aren't calling you back.
Hoping you got more good news today. I'm worried about our deck, too. It was a rough winter. We also lost all our front bushes and lots of little bushes and branches out back. This will be an expensive landscaping year for sure.
