Quality bread and quality cheese. I'd rather eat a plain sandwich with nothing but good bread and cheese than a big, fancy sandwich with a million toppings and crappy bread and cheese.
I want a sandwich so bad now after reading these responses lol.
We did this for Ada's 2nd party. I actually ended up going with sandwich rolls from Costco: white, wheat and pretzel rolls. The pretzel rolls were amazing with ham.

I just want to recreate the club from Jersey Mikes. Ham, turkey, provolone, bacon, lettuce tomato, onions, pickles, salt, pepper, oregano, oil and vinegar, mayo, and hot pepper relish.
Avocado, fancy mustard and/or mayo, fresh sliced deli meats and cheeses (turkey, salami, ham, cheddar, Swiss, and maybe a Gorgonzola?), bacon if you can swing it at room temp, a toaster, wheat bread and rolls, pickles maybe? Definitely lettuce (maybe 2 kids) and tomato (heirloom?). Cucumber and cream cheese. Maybe a savory spread or jam (tomato, artichoke, eggplant, hummus, etc) and assuming kids are present, a back up nut butter and jelly! Panini press?
Now I kind of want to throw an elaborate sandwich party - what a great idea!

Add red wine to this mix, and you'll be stuck with me for life.
