I think my doc put it off until 16 weeks. It's dicey to find it at 11-12 weeks and she didn't want to freak me out if she couldn't find it.
I never had an internal after the PAP until I was at the hospital in labour. There is the GBS swab in third tri, but that's more of a wipe than an internal.

They tried starting at my 8 week appointment because I'm thin. Because of the way my uterus is tilted, I never heard the heartbeat on the doppler until 16 weeks. I don't really know why they use it since they give ultrasounds at each appointment. (all of them except the dating ultrasound and the AS are free)
They tried at my first appointment (9.5 weeks) but couldn't hear anything, she said it's normal to not hear anything before 12 weeks. We could see the heartbeat on the u/s though.

I usually go in at 9-10 weeks and he tries then and has picked it up. I have picked it up with my home doppler since 9 weeks 0 days and everyday since.
