I'm new here and have a question. I'm terrible about choosing paint colors. It's not even the specific colors that I suck at picking but even just a general blue, green, tan, etc. Please help the decorating challenged. lol.
I'm just about to move. I have a toddler who loves trains. He's seriously obsessed so I guess that will be the theme of his new room. He already has a Thomas the train bedding set and chair. Normally I'm not one to go all out with character items (they're kind of cheesy) but honestly this is the only thing he loves.
I'd like to paint the room but I'm not sure what color to go with. I'd like to paint it once then as he gets older just change out the bedding and accessories so I don't want it to be too baby. Any ideas? Blue is generally my go-to color but everything Thomas is blue so that might be going overboard. Yellow would match but that might be too babyish. I was thinking green might be cute but like I said... I suck at choosing paint colors. Or I could do a basic tanish color which would kind of go with everything, right?
If you have rec's for specific colors that would be even better!
He already has this bedding:
He has this toddler chair / sofa thing:
I'd like to get some wall decals. Maybe something like this:
Paint is really easy and inexpensive to change, so I would paint based on his age for the next few years, not for the rest of his life. How old is he, maybe he can pick out his own color scheme? My girls decided they wanted a pink and yellow room hah.
I google Thomas rooms, lots of blues and yellows, I think the yellows look super nice!
I went to home depot and completely raided their paint cards and books, it might help expand that 3 color rut your're in

LOL. I think raiding the paint cards is a really good idea. You're right about not worrying about how it will look years down the road. I should just pick something cute that goes well with the room. It's not like paint lasts forever anyway
Haha I really did take 1 of everything. For one, it's easier to see what it looks like, rather than online, second I can tape it into my sketchbook that I workout my designs on, and 3rd ( and most important hah) the girls absolutely love them

Maybe my issue is trying to pick out colors at the store and get them that day. I think I'll go tonight and pick up a whole bunch of paint cards and bring them home before trying to decide. Maybe I'll even take them over to the soon to be new house before deciding...
DS is pretty random with colors so I don't want to rely on him but I bet he would love playing with any of the chips I don't want!
What about a light gray? That would go well with all of the stuff you have posted and still be neutral enough for say a year from now when he's into something else.

I agree 100% with this. Pick a gray that matches the train faces and then next year when he's into space (for example), you can say it's space shuttle gray.

I can't believe I'm quoting myself, but ... I used ChipIt on a thomas photo and the color they picked was SW Lazy Gray. I think it would definitely be a good option.

I like the idea of the gray also. You can also look into vinyl decals for "something" on the walls. I am doing an automotive theme for my teen right now and they will peel off easy when he is over them.

Oh! I LOVE the idea of gray! That SW Lazy Gray looks really good. I'm going to pick up a sample tomorrow, take it to the new place, and see how it looks in the room
