Has anyone tried this before?
I'm having migraine issues, and a certain upper cervical chiropractor was recommended to me by a good friend. I've never seen a chiropractor before, but I've made an appointment because I really want relief. She says he doesn't crack your neck but instead presses 'just so' on each point on your neck. I'm pretty nervous.
Not a snowflake's chance in hell is anyone manipulating my high cervical spine. Or anywhere on my c-spine, for that matter.
ETA: I hope you get some relief from the migraines, but chiropracters make me twitchy.

No. I've gone to physical therapy or to a DO to have an adjustment before. It's always really helped my headaches or tense areas. Maybe that would be an option if the chiropracter doesn't work for you.

I think some people do find relief through chiropractors. I personally stopped going when I came home once with a crooked face. Like my cheekbone and jaw were set farther back and up on one side. I got it fixed, but holy hell it was scary. I never returned.

That is scary! How long did it take you to get it fixed?

I think people that bad mouth chiropractors are just not educated enough on what they practice. I am not saying there aren't any bad chiropractors out there, but to just assume that they are all bad is pretty ignorant.

Just one visit. But it was messed up and I was freaking.

LOL.
Okay then.
I don't think they all suck, or are uneducated, but I am aware of too many real life examples of how chiros (maybe great ones, maybe shady ones) caused permanent damage. Everyone makes mistakes, even the best, most educated doctors (not chiros, doctors) out there will miss something, or make a mistake. I'd prefer not to have a mistake be on manipulating my spinal column.

Did you ever think that maybe they have been to a chiro that was better then another doctor and had a better experience with one?

yeah. I did. That's why its flameful. .
I'm not saying people don't find relief from their practices. I'm saying there's no way in hell I'll let anyone manipulate my spinal column because I'm not willing to take that risk. There is risk involved in any sort of medical treatment. Surgery, medications, whatever. When you have surgery, or get a medical treatment/procedure of some sort, you have to sign a form acknowledging informed consent of those risks. Some are substantial, but extremely low incidence. But the risk is still there. The more interventions you have, the more often you're taking that risk.
Rarely is a chiro ONE treatment. You have to go over, and over, and over. Each time you take a risk that he could eff up. Is there a similar form at the chiro's office acknowledging the possibility of permanent spine/spinal cord damage? I sincerely hope so.

I'm pretty sure when I took my sister to a Chiropractor I had to sign a form so he could treat her. (I was her guardian) It was a long time ago, so I don't remember everything that I had to sign, but I think it was the same as if I took her to a doctor's office. I know she had xrays and the chiro went through everything and how he was going to treat her. He answered all of my questions until I was satisfied. Also, I think I had to sign a form everytime I took her.
Chrio adjustments can stop my migraines in their tracks.
There are good doctors and bad doctors, and chiros are no different. But, before you get adjusted, make sure you get an x-ray. You don't want anyone adjusting anything until they've made sure there are no underlying problems. My chiro insisted on x-raying a woman who had neck pain for a few weeks. It turns out the lady had a fracture, so the chiro sent her right over to the proper doctor to treat the fracture.
Also, you might ask your chiro about a traction type move. They don't adjust or 'pop' anything. They just use slow motion to gently pull on your head. It helps your spine fall back into place and helps me release some huge tension knots. It gives me tremendous relief.

I am with you here. I am not comfortable with seeing a chiropractor.
Also, with an MD, you go through 8 years of school, plus a residency (which can be 1-8 years in duration), and according to Google, many DCs can do a 6 year program (similar to pharmacy), with no bachelor degree required. Maybe this doesn't matter, maybe it does, but it does give me pause.
