We're about to rent ours out (but permanently, not temporarily), so I am curious to see the responses. Two of my coworkers have had great experiences as landlords. Honestly, for just 10 days, I'm not sure I'd go through the hassle of getting the house pristine, removing your valuables, etc., and risking any damage caused.
DH and I moved from Michigan to Texas in a big hurry about 7 years ago. I had moved in with DH when we first got engaged, then married, so my house was empty. It is in a vacation town in Northern Michigan. I rented it furnished and my first renter was someone I knew personally. She stayed about 2.5 years and she was a decent renter. The next one only stayed a couple of months and the 3rd renter was the biggest asshole ever. He informed me that since we were too far away, we should just sell it to him. Everything was a constant battle. He threatened me with a lawyer and that was that, they finally moved out. Financially we don't need the rental income, so we keep it for us and our close family for a vacation home. My friend rents two of her homes, one riverfront and one lakefront, in the same town. It is great income and helps her pay her enormous tax bill. She rents through VRBO. Prepare yourself that no one will treat it as you do and have an emergency fund in case of problems.
