Coats and car seats are a big no-no A thin fleece jacket is the most you can/should use in the car seat.
My kids are 2.5 years apart, so I get that it's not exactly convenient when you've got more than 1, but it's actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I had them wear their coats TO the car, but then they would slip out of them to get in their seats. Then I would put it on them on backwards in the seat after being buckled. Then I would pull it off to unbuckle them and pop it right back on before they got out. It sounds like it takes a long time, but it added no more than 30 seconds to the routine, I promise
