The weather forecast a few days ago made me want to cry, "no, not another RNR!" Thankfully it took a turn for the better and the weather was really nice.
My husband and I signed up for the Parkway Classic last year when they were having a Black Friday deal with the plan of running our separate races but meeting up afterwards. We parked near the finish line and took a bus to the start line. We had tons of time to do two portapotty visits and chat with some friends.
H and I went to our separate corrals and got ready to start. I went out fast since I knew they were downhill. First mile was 7:03. Miles 3-4 were challenging and I was feeling tired already. Not good. Mile 4 was 7:53. I took a GU which thankfully I had packed for emergency use. I found the downhill at mile 5-6 which was welcome. 7:23. I kept at it and regained some of my pace.
Mile 9, I pushed really hard. When I realized that a sub 1:16 finish was possible, I gave it every last ounce of energy I had.
I finished in 1:15:53, PRing from my Army 10-miler by 50 seconds. It was a beautiful day for a race! I grabbed our stuff from the gear check and got to see him finish. I met up with him when he got out of the chute. My husband and I soaked up the sunshine and beer. I even asked a few people if I could have their beer tickets since my H and I wanted one more and I had forgotten our cash. I'm klassy like that. Then enjoyed a chaotic but nice lunch with my twin sister who watched the kids while we were racing.
Overall, it was a really great race, very well run and a great finish festival. They were really nice and let my H through even though he forgot his ID.
