Any other recommendations? I don't necessarily need a full activity tracker (tracking steps, sleep etc.) as I am not sure how much I would wear outside of working out. But I am open to it.
I saw this- anyone use it or know anything about it?
The only optical heart rate monitor that is good for use during exercise are any of the Mios. Mio fuse is their activity tracker. I have it and it works well. All tests/reviews done says that they match HR spot on. It currently doesn't synch to any other websites (like mfp), but it should happen this year.
The Fitbit HR is laughably inaccurate for working out.
DC Rainmaker did a review on the Charge HR and Surge. My takeaway was they are okay for less intense activity, but not once you get the HR up too high (at all?). I was all over the iWatch, but you have to have the iPhone for the GPS to work, so that was a no go for me. (I want something mainly to track my hr while running)

Thank you so much!
Quick question- can you run other aps on your phone while running the Mio ap. For example I use an interval timer ap on my phone during my work outs. Can I still do that while tracking my heart rate?
I am sold on the Mio now trying to decide if I really "need" the activity tracker version for double the price :-)
LM - It's still pretty bare bones. They added a gps run tracker to it, but it severely underestimates mileage. I'll wear the mio, have my garmin, and the phone ap tracking and the garmin and the ap never agree with the ap always being a good 10-15% short. However, that's pretty consistent with what the reviews said would happen. It does give me the info I need - calories burned during activity and HR information. The rest I see as sort of fluff.
leonard - Yes. In fact you don't even have to have the mio ap on for it to track your HR. It keeps the data in the band until it synchs. That feature sold it to me because I didn't have to carry anything extra with me to track my HR. I think you can have it push the info to some aps like MapMyRun, but I haven't played with that.
