After 40 hours of active labor, attempting not to throttle the world's bitchiest anesthesiologist, and finally winding up in the OR with a c-section, Maxwell Joseph was born at 11:45 p.m. on May 15th, 2012 weighing 8 lbs. 6 oz and 21 3/4 inches long.
Father and son.
Sticking his tongue out already.
And a close-up.
The c-section went great, but he did aspirate a bit of meconium, so he's still in the special nursery because he has Transient Tachyapnea (rapid breathing) and until that calms down, the doc wants him monitored. They think it's because he really hasn't cried much at all- and without the screaming of an infant, his lungs couldn't clear out the last bit of goop in there. Thankfully, they aren't too worried about it.
The Dr thinks that I began to develop toxemia and/or HELLP syndrome towards the end of pregnancy because I swelled up rapidly, my BP increased by ~ 50 systolic and ~30 diastolic, and my liver numbers on my CBC went wonky. I'm still swollen (but, I had 3 separate epidurals, lord knows how many bags of saline and haven't been allowed to move), but my BPs today haven't gone abovfe 120/70...so now I'm just waiting to hear back on the next blood draw. I really don't like the idea of HELLP though, so if anyone has experience, please share!
I had pre-e that was heading downhill (towards HELLP). For a variety of reasons I stayed in the hospital four days after my son was born and I've been on blood pressure medication ever since.
The HELLP risk can continue after delivery (not to scare you) so read about the symptoms and keep an eye out for them. I monitored my BP at home.
