This sounds like a better system than the drawer in my bathroom where I throw every sample I get, wanted or not. I really need to go through it and make a trip to the women's shelter with the stuff I won't or can't use.
I sorted mine in baggies - haircare, cleansers, serums, eye creams, moisturizers, mascara, primers, and makeup samples. I always tell myself that I am not going to buy anything that I have samples of, but I never listen to myself.

I rarely use them. My plan to purge is to give them to a bunch of friends the next time we get together. I'll have them go through and see what they want.

I do this too. Makes it easier to see what I have.
At the beginning of the year, I made it a New Year's resolution of sorts to try and use up a bunch of my samples. I actually did get thru a bunch, but I still have a ton to go.

I do this too, only I use various freebie makeup bags. I travel a lot so I try to use them for weekend trips. But yes, I have way more than I will ever use.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
I have mine under my bathroom sink in birchboxes. The are sorted by what they are and labeled with a sharpie. So when I run out of moisturizer I know exactly where to go to get a new one.
Finding ways to use my birchboxes is a passion of mine. lol.

I need to look through all of mine.
The problem is I end up with a lot of stuff I can't use -- I have sensitive skin, and I'm scared to try most new lotions because I don't want to break out in hives. I should separate out what I'm never going to use and start a traveling sample box again.

I tell myself this too. My hoarding tendencies show up, and if I really like something, then I want the full size and keep the sample *just in case*. Point. Missed.
Also, in the last few months I have let friends sort through and take what they want and given away several (large) boxes of samples (birchbox do not contain my samples anymore) and I still have a crazy amount....
