We never do anything really special for E's birthday because its right after Thanksgiving and we go to Tahoe with E's family for Thanksgiving every year.

This year I want to do something special for him.
Trying to decide between:
A. Staying with family Wednesday and Thursday night like we always do and then getting a hotel up there for the remaining nights, and do a spa thing and a nice dinner. ( We would have the dogs with us and would have to see if ILs would bring them back for us)
Or
B. go up the following weekend ( the weekend of his birthday). Take the train up on Friday and then just relax, do the spa thing and dinner on Saturday. We would have to leave Sunday morning fairly early to get home as the train heads back at 8:30am. We could drive but E thinks the train would be fun and I've never taken the train. ( We would have someone house sit and watch the dogs).

Which would you do?

The actual day matters nothing at all to me. And I really distrust train travel in America. So I'd go or a. Plus, more days away

I'd do A it sound like a like a great idea! In my experience, train travel is not nearly as fun as you think it would be

I like train travel... but it does sound easier if you decided to do Option A. That way you can also have a small party on his real Bday at home.
