2000 ounces? Jeebus, woman! Could you donate some of that, so that you would not have to try to transport so much? I think you could bf until the end of time with that amount!
When I've shipped milk to the milk bank and I had to unpack part of the deep freeze and move it to dad's when we had lonn power outages... this is what I learned: -if you use dry ice and make sure there's no 'empty space' in the cooler. The dry ice sublimates faster if it has air space. So when you have empty spots, fill them w/ stuff like newspaper -the ice on top does work. -The more you pack in, the more the frozen milk helps keep the rest of the frozen milk cold. -if dry ice lays against the side of a plastic cooler to long, it'll break the cooler--put newspaper/foam/towels/something between the dry ice and the plastic.
5 hours isn't bad at all. Mine was in coolers w/ ice and a non-operational deep freeze for over 24 hours before I had to worry about it starting to melt.
I clicked on the wron lg subboard but wanted to suggest something. Do you have any plastic juice or milk containers? If so, mostly fill with water and freeze them before the deep freeze is unplugged. Put the frozen containers in with your milk an it will help keep the freezer cool during transport (and if it melts you wont have a freezer full of water). Also, since it's going to be in an a/c car and you are only going a few hours it should be fine.
I just spent 4 hours in the car last night with some frozen breadtmilkin bags in a cooler bag with no ice/ cold packs. It hadn't even begun to thaw by the time we got home, it was still frozen solid. I think you will be fine for a 5 hour

This is actually a really great idea. We used jugs to fill our freezer when we first got it and only had a little bit of food. Since it's still a few days until the weekend they can get some jugs from their neighbors/co-workers if needed.
