Those of you who switched LO into a convertible seat before he/she could sit up unassisted, what do you put LO in when you go places? DS is 5.5 months, and getting reaallllly heavy in his infant seat (27" and 21 lbs). But I don't know what to put him in when we go places. Like restaurants, my parents house for the afternoon, church, etc.. He can't sit up in a high chair, and I don't want to hold him the whole time. For example, when we go to church or cooking at my parent's house I leave him in his infant seat and give him a toy. Do I need to get a PnP or something for my parent's house?
Also, what's this Toy R Us sale people keep mentioning? I don't see anything on their website. Is it the end of this month or end of Sept? TIA!

We will be switching DS in a couple weeks (4 months old). It's sort of dumb but we're considering keeping the infant seat in the trunk for when we go to places like restaurants. At our parents' or friends' houses we take a blanket and let him roll around on the floor. We also utilize the Bjorn/Ergo if we're someplace we'll be mobile.
We never used the infant seat in these cases. (Like I've mentioned, we literally used the bucket seat 4 times total.) I just wore her in the carrier if I knew we'd be somewhere like a restaurant where there was no one else around to hold her. The Ergo had a nice little hood so I wouldn't get crumbs on her head.
Otherwise, there was never a lack of people who wanted to hold DD if we were visiting friends or family.
ETA: just read vanilla's response. Oops, yes, we used an Aden & Anais blanket on the floor a lot. This is how I got through mommy & me yoga (which was really me yoga with baby along for the ride in the very early days).

We never used the infant seat as a carrier. I just wore DS when we went to restaurants or we held him. At church I always just stuck him in the carrier and rockd him to sleep. At anyones house he just went on the floor.
Is there a reason he needs to be confined at your parents house? I would just plop him down on the floor or hand him off to a parent.

Twice a year BRU has a trade in event, it's a safety promotion. Trade in something old (even if it's broken or expired) to get a 25% off coupon towards something new. I'm not sure if dates are the same nationwide. I called my local store to get the dates. (Ours is end of Aug - mid Sept)

Not dumb at all, IMO. This is exactly what I did with DD #1 (#2 could sit up by the time she graduated from the carrier). It wasn't safe for use as a car seat but was still perfect for grocery shopping, restaurants, etc. and worked out great.

I must be using my Ergo wrong, b/c I can't sit with DS in it. His head pushes into my chin. Maybe my torso is too short?
I tried putting DS on the floor at my parents house, no dice. They have a very large ancient dog that tries to lick DS to death Plus, the way their bottom floor is laid out, there's no place I could put him on the floor and still be able to see him from the kitchen. Their bar/island thing blocks the view of the floor in the breakfast room, and there's not enough room in the kitchen itself. Mom can't hold him b/c she's cooking with me, and well Dad is....no other way to say it, he's addicted to television. He will plop DS in front of the baseball game and I don't want that. Maybe I'll try and find a used PnP for their house.

Maybe instead of a PnP you could get a baby jail? I think they are cheaper and he could have more room to hang out.
ETA: Re: Ergo I have a really short torso, btu DS is pretty short too so he doesn't come up to my chin. Typically at dinner though one of us just held him while the other one ate. Or I would nurse him and then eat.
