On a different parenting board a mom was saying kids babylefty's age should be nursing 3X a day.... He eats like...every 4 hours and still sort of cluster feeds at night (every hour from 5-7) overnight he eats twice and is definitely actually hungry. It never crossed my mind that he should consolidate his feedings but should we? And if so...how?
Do what fits your family best. If he's still growing, and you're not completely off the deep end, keep doing what you're doing. Every family is different.
I agree with jennlin, you do what works for you. If you think you need him to consolidate or that he could do it then go for it, if not then I wouldn't worry about it. J is almost 17 months and still wakes twice a night to eat. The first one I could probably work at getting her to drop but the second one she is obviously hungry so I go with it. All kids are different. M was never a wake to eat baby after like 8 weeks old so, every kid is different.
I remember when Em was like 6 months old and her doctors gave me a "what to expect" type of sheet and I started crying/laughing when I read "By now your baby should be sleeping 6-8 hours stretches at a time and should only be waking 1-2 times to nurse)." She slept in 90 minute spurts and nursed constantly. Haha. Every kid is different. Don't measure yourself against anyone else.
If you feel like you are losing it and can't function during the day, like I did, think about doing some sleep training. I started sleep training on my own (I didn't follow a book or plan), around 6 months. I felt like I had to do that to save my sanity. It worked for us and helped her soothe herself after a few minutes. Sometimes it didn't work and then I knew I needed to go in and nurse. It didn't take long for us...only about a week maybe. She figured out that I wasn't going to come running every time she woke up so she would fuss for a minute and then go back to sleep.
I don't mind the hungry wake ups. So when it's just twice a night I'm okay with it. He spent 4 days screaming every time he came close to his crib and waking up every hour but whatever that was has passed...I hope.
I just can't imagine him only nursing 3 times a day...even with all the table food he eats. He's little, since his 6 month appointment he's been dropping in percentages (50th at 4 months, 30th at 6, 15th at 9) and his doctor isn't worried...but I can't help but worry! Or maybe he just got the little genes that run in the family.

Is he getting more active? I know with both girls I was surprised how much their % dropped once they just started picking up the simplest of activities.
My 21 month old nurses more than 3 times per day most days at this point. I'm sure 3x per day is realistic for some babies, but i would just keep doing what's working for you.
