I love to see the military lead the way on things like this. Part of me hopes it works as a wake-up call to private enterprise regarding best practices for supporting your employees...
That's excellent! It's funny our contractors get 12 weeks but our active duty can't. AND our contractors still complain!
I don't think you fix physical fitness by opening gyms longer though. People who don't go to the gym now still won't go to the gym. Our gym at the hospital is open 24 hours and I see the same 3 people in there everyday. I did my PRT with a guy that looked like he was going to pass out after 2 minutes of sit ups. He needs a kick in the butt not more gym availability.
Personally I think adding childcare at the fitness center might help. If your duty day takes up almost all of the time the CDC is open, when are you supposed to work out if you're a single parent or if your co-parent works?
I'm just really bitter about people that are out of standards, especially since they sent a girl from my department on deployment even though she failed her BCA. We couldn't even get her to go to mando PT.
