I've been reading the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) books. They're not that good, but they're cute and good enough to read when I want something fluffy.
For some reason I never got into these and I expected to enjoy them because I love True Blood. I only read the first book and it lined up pretty closely with the TV show and for some reason I just couldn't stand the book. I think I felt like the author was out of touch. I just remember banana clips being involved and not being able to take it seriously. It's one of those guilty pleasures I feel like I'm missing out on.
Yeah, have you seen pictures of Charlaine Harris? I don't think she's very fashionable! And the other thing that occasionally grates on me is that since the books are in first person, and she uses such colloquial language, I sometimes start reading it in a southern accent in my head. My BFF also thinks the sex scenes suck. But somehow, we can't turn away from them.
I've only read the first 4, and I've heard the last few (well, at least 11) were bad. But once you're that invested in the series, you just have to keep going.

Yeah, the fasion is definitely not great in those books!
Ditto on the Sookie Stackhouse books. They keep getting worse, but they are such easy reads that at least I don't feel like I've wasted my time.
Also, out of curiosity because of all the hype, I just finished reading the Fifty Shades of Grey books. I was actually surprised that I liked them as much as I did. Of course, the writing wasn't anything special, but they were a fun read.
I figure anything that I'll only read on my kindle counts as a guilty pleasure and there's definitely some YA on there. Sometimes I'm interested in literary junk food and this totally does the trick. I can't wait for the last book in the Fallen series by Lauren Kate to come out. And if Stephenie Myers ever writes anything else related to Twilight you can bet I'll be buying it.
Diane Mott Davidson--truly embarrassing stuff. I'll read almost anything with a pink cover.
I like these, too. I've made one or two of her recipes, and love just reading the ones I don't make.
I definitely like to settle in and relax before bed with some good chick lit. Jennifer Weiner, Nora Roberts, Catherine Coulter, etc. I have a Mary Higgins Clark and a Carol Higgins Clark book right now. And I'll admit to having read all of the Harry Potter, Twilight, and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series.
