So with the corn... will the prices only be things processed with corn products? What other crops are having a rough summer? Are we just talking processed foods, or is other produce struggling?

eclaires - some of the fruit crop is going to be crap, too. They flowered too early, and then froze, so a lot of the crop was lost.

Soy was pretty bad this year too.

Try buying any manufactured food that doesn't contain wheat, soy or corn it is pretty dang hard.

We have some land that is currently being farmed. The corn there is still standing and doing fine.

It's been raining here for the last two days, which is good for the soybeans. Hopefully a few more days of rain should be enough to turn it around!

I can think of things we buy that would be processed, but I think we could skip those if I thought they were too high. Unless I'm missing something that is a necessity.

There is tons and tons of good corn in west MI, but that obviously won't make up for what happened in the rest of the midwest. We are all screwed.

She might be crazy, but she's also right. Storm clouds would come through, but then they'd just move over, they wouldn't rain down. There would be entire storm systems that would move towards Indpls and then they'd kind of donut around Marion/Boone. I think my mom said at one point they had had two full months with ZERO precipitation. Add to that the sweltering heat and the crops were done before we even got to the knee-high-by-the-4th-of-July stuff.

Oh I know... but she thinks Zionsville gets the worst and wouldn't include Marion in that at all. Just Boone County. And actually just Z-ville. That's why she's crazy.

The corn and soybeans are looking good in PA as well. The sweet corn is being harvested right now. I left work yesterday to the smell of fresh cut corn stalks.

Field corn will be harvested in a few more months.

yeah, its the same up here in Ontario. My dad's corn crop was sh!t. The soybeans were ok, the wheat was actually pretty good.

I was at Walmart with my mom last week, and whole wheat pasta was on sale for 1.50 a box. We stocked UP on that shit!!!

I'm learning to do some of my own canning, too. So when things are on sale, I can buy in bulk and make things.

I also did freezer corn - boiled some extra sweet corn, cut it off and sealed & froze it. Its good with sausage, beans, etc or in a casserole.

No shit. When I was up there the corn was huge and healthier looking than I've seen in ages. They really caught a break this year.

I had some of the best corn of my life a few weeks ago, which is weird, because CA is not known for its corn.
