We bought a house in our TARGET neighborhood and it too needed the same type of cosmetic updates but the layout -- and again, neighborhood and street was perfect. I have not regretted it for a minute -- I'm sharing to encourage you! Good luck!
I had no idea Bozeman (or anywhere in MT) was that expensive!
Bozeman, Missoula, and Kalispell is where a lot of out-of-staters come to Live life the "Montana" way
Needless to say, prices are ridiculous, and there is a huge judge-y feel when you aren't from here. Like, "Go back to where you came from" feel because they just drive up prices.Â
Everywhere else is not that bad...however, you don't really want to LIVE anywhere else...Missoula, Bozeman, and Kalispell are pretty cool.Â
Yeah, I get that. We lived in Colorado growing up for a while and it was the same way there. The locals felt superior to the "foreigners". We don't have that in cleveland - no one moves here, and if they do, everyone wants to know why. LOL.
But color me shocked at those prices. It stinks when prices are high but incomes don't match.
Omg you guys! I really, really like it! So much that I just rushed home to tag-teamed H and make him go over and look at it. Give me a sec and I'll post pictures.
We're not in the market, in terms of NEEDING to move, but I really liked this house and this neighborhood. And my H refuses to even make an offer because, wait for it.... we're going to Germany on Saturday and he can't think about moving because he's going to Germany. Even though we both think that the offer would be beat.
Shit, I'm sorry. We were so sad when we lost out on the first house we bid on but it all worked out. I don't know if I could bid on something right before going on vacation. Hang in there.
We're not making an offer. They already have two offers, for over the listing price, for cash.
I fucking hate this town.
I randomly came across this post when I was search for a mid century modern post I had seen on H&G a few months ago.
Too bad you couldn't get it. Those are rare in MT.
As for housing - it's crazy everywhere. Unless you are willing to live on the main streets or in the flats in the valley of our little MT town, you can't get any 4 bedrooms for less than $300k. And the ones you can get in our town for $300k are not the darling Victorians with beautiful yards, but the 1970's/1980's split levels several miles from downtown.
I hope you find something. Your town is even harder.
I think the house has good bones and other changes could be made over time
It's expensive on the context of lagging income. MT ranks 46th in median household income, between Kentucky and North Carolina. Lagging income but skyrocketing real estate prices create a disparity. And, in my case, straight up despair about ever being able afford another house here.
