Backstory: our town is ridiculously expensive. This house is in one of our target neighborhoods and needs a lot of cosmetic work. But... Target neighborhood! In our price range!
There are definitely some things I would update but nothing is "Oh My GOSH! That is terrible and we can't live there" level. You could take some time to change a few things but it is still liveable. I actually like the light over the dining area for some reason. I'm not sure what sticks out about it, but I like it. I also enjoy the juxtaposition of the range and stainless steel fridge.
You could do so much with that house. I'd just be concerned with the non-egress bedrooms though.
I agree with you. Actually, the high windows in all Mid-century modern houses are an issue for egress. In looking at the available photos, it looks to me like none of the windows are actually egress. How about the slanted window in one of the bedrooms!? (Mid-century love!)
I wonder if this was Don Draper's retirement home?
I'm frantically texting our realtor friend. I would go over there and SOI a walk through tonight if they would let me. From the county tax records, it looks like its owned by a trust. I'm guessing an older owner passed away.

Hah!
Would you have to update the windows in order for the town to provide a CO?
raangoli no, the town/ state doesn't require an inspection when a property changes ownership. We wouldn't have to do anything, but I wouldnwant all windows to be egress.
IrishBelle, honestly, it's tkaen me a LONG time to come around to mid-century modern too (and I'm an architectural historian!). That said, all of the Craftsman and older homes are $500k+. For a 1200 square foot house
I love it, just don't buy it & make it generic...keep the MCM vibe . For 2600SF in a good hood, that price isn't too bad. In Denver those little MCMs are up to $500K+ now with no basements (half the sf).

I like it! We toured a mid century modern home in Seattle and I drooled over it. It was professionally decorated in the 60s and hadn't been touched since. It was in amazing condition.
I love it. MCM homes were also built so well. Nothing like the shit builders were throwing up in the 80's and 90's. And it really doesn't need any major work, some small updates within the MCM theme and you'd be set.
Also, I'm jealous you live in that part of the country. It's so beautiful.
I had no idea Bozeman (or anywhere in MT) was that expensive!
Oh Christ, don't even get me started. BozeAngeles is fucking ridiculous. There are 24 houses on the market with 3 bedrooms for under $350k. A 4th bedroom is easily $400k. And incomes are ridiculously low. I like to joke that our city seal should be a trust fund.
So they are doing no showings until the open house tomorrow, from 1-3pm. I plan on going. I also think they put it on at a lower price because either 1) the basement is a wreck (here are no photos of the basement on the listing) or 2) they're hoping for a bidding war.
