I also posted this on the main board. (I wanted to post here too in case some people don't check both.)
There is an opening on DH's office, in a recent meeting his supervisor basically told him the job was his if he wants it.
It would be a promotion. It's a pay grade higher than his current position, so probably $1-2/hr raise. No change in benefits. (they're universal for all employees)
The problem: it would require him to work until 8pm one night a week. He currently works "normal" office hours so DH, DS & I all get home at the same time every night. We get a few hours of family time before DS goes to bed.
Even though it's only 1 night DH is concerned about missing that time with DS. (7 mo old) On his late night DS would already be asleep when he got home.
He's been at his company for 6 years, he's advanced from Specialist 1 to Specialist 3. In the foreseeable future there won't be any other opportunities to move up. A lateral move may be possible but might also require working late.
If he works until 8pm 1 night/ week, can he come in late another morning? Or are they saying that if he currently works 40 hours a week he will now work 43 hours a week?
No big deal, but consider the source. DH has been out of town since last Saturday and some weeks he works 70 hours. Obviously this lifestyle doesn't work for everyone. If he only worked one night, I wouldn't know what to do.. lol.
