I get what he's saying, but poor word choice. ----------- Vice President Joe Biden told supporters that Republicans would “put y’all back in chains,†during a campaign speech Tuesday in Danville, Va.
VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: They’ve said it. Every Republican’s voted for it. Look at what they value and look at their budget and what they’re proposing. Romney wants to let the—he said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules–unchain Wall Street. They’re going to put y’all back in chains. He’s said he’s going to do nothing about stopping the practice of outsourcing…
Biden was introduced at the campaign event by Center for American Progress Action Fund president Tom Perriello, who called Biden “the conscience of our nation’s capital.â€Â
The Romney campaign reacted strongly to the remarks, calling them “not acceptable†in a statement released shortly after Biden’s campaign speech.
“The comments made by the vice president of the United States are not acceptable in our political discourse and demonstrate yet again that the Obama campaign will say and do anything to win this election,†spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in the statement. â€ÂPresident Obama should tell the American people whether he agrees with Joe Biden’s comments.â€Â
But Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter the campaign has “no problem with those comments,†in an interview with Andrea Mitchell.
An Obama campaign official later told CNN’s John King that Biden’s comments were “not helpful.â€Â
For some reason your copy and paste inserted some really weird characters, at least on my screen. I don't know... I agree it was an unfortunate word choice, but not nearly as bad as some of his other gaffes I think implying that he was deliberately referring to slavery is a stretch. He was clearly riffing off of the "unshackling" the banks/wall street comment that Romney made.
I saw the clip this morning, and I'm with Biden 200% on this. Let me just throw this out there too - even if you think the slavery reference is a stretch, it's valid. Wall Street doesn't need less regulation. This whole superbly fucked up economy has a lot to do with the Wall Street, the banks, and stupid ass loans.
The banks for dayum sure don't need to be unshackled. And the banks have been too busy ripping off minority borrowers. How, so glad you asked. Recently, Memphis just settled a $432 million dollar lawsuit with Wells Fargo for ... wait for it ... discriminatory loan practices that singled out black folks by offering them high priced loans which helped contribute to the foreclousre crisis in the city. Too bad I'm not an Obama surrogate, because I'd sure as shit point this stuff out and ask, Do you really want the banks to have less regulation? We've seen what they done and letting them be unshackled certainly does bring the chains of financial ruin on minorities judging from past practices.
I don't know why the a's got the weird thing above them, I blame Jobs. Finally, the y'all made me icky as well. His cadence usually doesn't have it so it caught my attention more than normal, probably.

There is also a clip of Paul Ryan using the word shackled. That didn't bother me and the chained reference doesn't bother me. People complain when politicians use the teleprompter too much, but I can see why--any time you talk off of the cuff, there will be things that can be taken as inappropriate when there was no intention. I give them some space so that we can hear them discuss things from the heart and not be so scripted--especially since the script may not even be their own words and feelings and something written by a speechwriter. I also want them to feel free to answer questions that are not approved in advance.

I blame the drought. And 9/11.
Just in case it wasnt clear...I meant Steve Jobs, not his gaffe of 3 letter word J-O-B-S. I forgot about that one
