DH and I just got back from a graduation party where they had pizzas made in a pizza oven. The parents just had it built and now DH wants one too.
There is no way I am paying thousands for a prebuilt one so this may be a DIY project (which likely wouldn't happen until next summer by which time I am hoping DH has lost interest. )
I think in the grand scheme of backyard DIY projects, they aren't too terribly complicated to build. I have directions saved somewhere on my computer, maybe from ReadyMade magazine? A backyard oven has been on our list of outside projects for our new house too.

My DH wanted one for a while. The only thing holding him back is they take so much time/energy to heat up to cook a pizza, it's sort of a waste to only cook 1-2 pizzas.

My DH wants one and actually wanted to get an indoor soapstone hearth/fireplace insert that had one built in to the design.
They are pretty spendy to buy the indoor ones, but he has looked at plans for outdoor ones and we have a local cermaics/artist colony that has one they built.
We have a Grill Dome which is like a Big Green Egg. If you throw a pizza stone in there, you can cook a pizza on it. It's great, so versatile. We had a cabinet custom made to hold it
