Just an FYI for the apple lovers-local early varieties are starting to show up in the Northeast. You should have local apples at your farmers markets very soon.
And to be an AW, this weekend I made Spiced Blueberry Jam, Maple-Walnut Blueberry Conserve, and Cherry-Blueberry Conserve. I really like working in produce
I have a love/hate relationship with apple season. I love the apples, but hate the amount of work that comes along that time of year. An entire week is spent canning and cooking, which sucks, but is totally worth it when I can have homemade applesauce, apple pie filling and preserves all year long!

We're had apples at our NY farmer's market since late July. The harvest bloomed and fruited early this year from early heat waves.
There's going to be a problem for apple-pickers this year. My town heavily relies on their income and they expect a harvest through October and that's not going to happen.
It's better than losing half the crop to Hurricane Irene, though.
Apple season means fall is right around the corner which is my favorite time of year. I don't can or bake pies, but there is nothing like going out to the local farms, picking apples/pumkins/hayrides/corn mazes. I'm pretty excited DS will be a little more aware of the fun this year!

Ditto this. My DS loved apple picking last year and is still talking about wanting to do it this year. I can't wait!
