We're completely redoing our bathroom. Everything has been ripped out down to the studs and bare pipes sticking out of the floor, so basically, there is nothing existing that needs to be matched as I put all new stuff in.
This is the vanity we bought.
But, it came with the top pictured here:
So here's my question. I'm picking out hardware for the room and I was kind of wanting to do all oil rubbed bronze. Do you think that would look ok with this vanity? It came with the brushed nickel knobs like you see in the picture, but I could always replace them, I just wasn't sure how ORB would look with the cherry colored vanity. I think it would look nice with the marble-ish top and in the shower. I'm sure the nickel would look great too, and I can do that if it comes down to it. I just always had this vision of doing the master bath with ORB so I'm trying to decide if it will work.
The plumber is coming on Friday and he wants me to have picked out the showerhead and stuff for the shower, and I know I want everything to coordinate, so I'm trying to figure this out now. So far, the vanity is the only thing that has been purchased.
I still have to pick out tile, but I think I've narrowed it down to a whitish tile with grey and cream swirls. I tried to google for a picture but haven't had much luck yet. If that sounds awful you can tell me that too.
I think it could look great, but if you can I'd take one of the doors off the vanity and bring it with you to a good showroom. Different brands of faucets have very different finishes to their ORB pieces - some are nearly black, others are almost coppery, and then there is everything in between. Go find a specific manufacterers finish that compliments the reddish tones in the cherry. (and then look online for a better price)
Pretty vanity. I really like the silver hardware both with the counter and with the cabinet. I wouldn't use ORB because I think it would look too harsh against that light counter, for some reason. I'm not the biggest ORB fan, though.
Personally I don't like ORB faucets. I love ORB door hardware, floor registers, dresser hardware (on a light-medium colored dresser), and lighting but I don't like the way ORB bathroom fixtures look or how water spots are so obvious on them. My aunt just installed a Moen (or was it Kohler?) faucet in her powder room which is heavily used and it always looks dirty because of how is shows water spots. Silver in some shape or form is classic in a bathroom and what most people prefer. ORB handles on a dark vanity like that wouldn't look good IMO sorry. I like the contrast the knobs make with the cabinet so you can see them. ORB would just blend in with them. ORB has a warm undertone to it...it's supposed to look like bronze. So I also don't think it would look good with gray and white tile or the faux marble top which has a cool undertone. Usually when you see ORB fixtures in a shower it's on a warm tan travertine looking tile. Often they are used in bathrooms with a darker rustic feel. Your vanity doesn't say that to me at all. Here's a blog friend of mine who used ORB faucets on her white sinks and didn't like the contrast: diydiva.net/2011/07/a-half-working-master-bath-better-than-nothing/
If anyone can rock the dark rustic feel it's her! Here's a few examples of the tan travertine look with ORB shower fixtures:
Re: water spots - The only faucets we have installed so far are the brushed nickle in the downstairs bath and those show water spots too. So it's not like you avoid the issue entirely by switching to a silver tone. That faucet is a grohe. Other brands might be more spot-resistant.
The contrast between the wood and the knobs that fox mentioned is a really good point though. If you have your heart set on ORB, it'd be easy to just pick up one or two knobs at the big box and switch them out to see how it looks. If you don't like it...then you have your answer.
Man...inspiration pics with ORB against light marble w/ dark wood are hard to find. Suppose that should tell you something. (mainly that most people agree with Fox.)
That doesn't have cherry wood though. Edited because I realized they're the same bathroom. duh.
Wawa is here! Good paint about the different ORB looks between brands. Yes all faucets will show waterspots. The finish on her faucet isn't very good a better brand with a PVD finish would probably stay looking nicer. But the extremely hard water in our area and the fact that her style is not a widespread (so it had the plate between the handles and faucet like the OP's pic) doesn't help. The plate on the bottom seems to collect water and the tight area is hard to clean. She hate's it now that it's in but it took her so long to convince her husband to install it that it might be a while before she gets a different one.
