We had a similar situation - a very mature girl - so we were comfortable. One thing I do for ALL sitters EACH time they sit for us is to remind them where our address is written down and to call 911 first, then us For me, this was especially important with the younger sitter.
I was babysitting at that age and was probably better at it then than when I was in high school. I still liked to play and thought kids were fun and felt so grown up having some responsibility.
Yes. I babysat at that age with no problem and loved it.
My favorite babysitter started when Rubes was born. She was 12. I trained her well and she's now almost 16 and totally awesome.
It gets hard the older the kids get too. Here it's mainly 12-14 year olds babysitting. As soon as they can drive they move on to bigger and better paying stuff.
When I started her we were close to home and I knew her parents were around as well, which made everyone more comfortable.
I started babysitting at that age and I was a very good choice - and the kids were about that age. It's a little funny how I got the gig -
My friend, a fellow 7th grader, was selling something door-to-door. The mom was impressed by her and asked her about babysitting - on the spot. She was booked on Saturday nights, so the mom asked her to recommend a friend. That was me! That's how we met and I was their regular Saturday Date Night babysitter for years.
