I've been feeding my dog raw for 2+ years now and she's doing great on it. She loves it and I'm going to keep her on it.
Here's my concern:
She's currently on one raw dog food where the company owns the animals and the farm. They know where all of the meat is coming from and they do the whole process themselves. The downside is that the send us the food every six weeks and it takes up about 80% of the freezer.
It gets a 4.5/5 rating on dog food adviser.
The food our dog walker has mentioned that he's feeding his dogs a different kind of raw. This raw is available in the neighborhood, where I can go pick it up myself weekly (and won't lose all of that freezer space). However, they don't own their own animals or farm. They do say that they source their meat from organic/human grade/all British (where we live) farms.
It gets a 4.7-4.9/5 (depending on meat type) on dog food adviser.
Both companies meat/bone/organ/vegetable ratio is the same. The cost difference is negligible, really only saves me shipping since I would have to pick up the new raw food if we switched.
Do you think it's worth the switch for the .2-.4 higher rating in food, reclaiming space in my freezer despite the other company not owning their farm or animals? Any insight would be super helpful.
FWIW, getting a second freezer isn't an option nor is getting a smaller shipment more frequently from the 1st company.
If the freezer space issue is an ISSUE (I get that)- and you're comfortable that they will always have food available when you need it, sure. I don't think the .2 rating increase would factor into my decision much at all, though.
I would switch for the freezer space personally. I go to the local dog store to pick her up some raw food each week. I don't have the freezer space to do big shipments.
No I wouldn't. That's why I have 2 dog freezers. The 3D/4D meat that ends up in non human grade food is disgusting. That includes not having regulations to follow on drug withdrawal times to avoids residue.
