My milk had a yellowish tinge sometimes, but I never had it be from infection. I never really thought about it. As far as the plugged duct, just keep massaging and have him nurse as much as he can. Mine usually went away in a couple of days. If the pain gets excruciating or the redness gets worse, I would call you doc about the possibility of mastitis.

Normal, I have had that when I had a plugged duct. I just kept hand expressing every few hours, focusing on massaging the clog. It usually resolved itself by the end of the day. Don't be alarmed if you see some pink tinges of blood too.
I vote normal too. Next time your DS is due to nurse, take a hot shower just before and massage a bit in the shower, then latch him when you get out. I've found that works well to clear any plugs out.
I think I have a plugged duct (hopefully nothing more?) - pain in a specific spot in my breast, a little redness, can't really feel a lump though. DS only nurses twice a day and I'm not pumping anymore, so it's hard to empty it a lot, which I know is the typical advice. I've been heating, massaging, and tried to have him nurse longer this morning.
Anways - I'm at work and was massaging/expressing milk in the bathroom and some of the milk had a definite yellow tint to it (some was still normal white-ish color). Any idea what this is? Infection/puss? Hopefully not a sign of mastitis?
the color doesn't really matter unless it's bloody (and even then, it could be just a cracked nipple). i think it sounds like a plug, too. you're going to think i'm an idiot, but try nursing with the baby under you so that he is helping to pull the plug down. if you can get his chin to point toward the plug, that can increase the strength of the suction on that spot. some people put the baby on a bed and kind of hover on their elbows and knees. it feels stupid, but it works like crazy.
OTC lecithin can help, too. it thins the milk and can break up the clog.
keep a close eye on it because mastitis is the pits!!! mastitis usually shows up as bands of red inflammation rather than spots, and usually with a fever. it sucks.
If you have red streaks on your skin or get a fever go to the doctor as that's mastitis most likely. It wasn't that bad for me. I felt like I had a minor flu until I's been on antibiotics a day and my supply went to about 2/3 or a 1/2 until a week after the meds were done.
