Scott Walker: Mandatory Ultrasounds Are 'Just A Cool Thing' For Women
Potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) said in an interview on Friday that mandatory ultrasounds for women hoping to get an abortion was "just a cool thing."
During the interview with conservative radio host Dana Loesch, Walker defended a bill he’d signed in 2013 that required women get the ultrasounds.
“The thing about that, the media tried to make that sound like that was a crazy idea,” Walker said. “Most people I talk to, whether they’re pro-life or not, I find people all the time who’ll get out their iPhone and show me a picture of their grandkids’ ultrasound and how excited they are, so that’s a lovely thing. I think about my sons who are 19 and 20, and we still have their first ultrasounds. It’s just a cool thing out there.”
He also lauded the bill’s effects.
“We just knew if we signed that law, if we provided the information, that more people if they saw that unborn child would make a decision to protect and keep the life of that unborn child,” Walker said.

Also, the fact that he cites grandmothers and fathers, NOT the people who are actually having said ultrasounds is pretty telling - women are incubators first, people second.
Yeah, I'm sure the rape victim about to get an abortion is really thinking what a medical marvel that wand is while it is being forced unwillingly into her body.

Uh NO. I've had them for infertility and for pregnancy, at that point the baby is a blob, nothing cute or exciting to see. That comes when you can do abdominal u/s.

Most of those ultrasounds that people so proudly show to others are abdominal, not transvaginal, and people who wanted/needed ultrasounds were able to get them before that law was enacted. He makes it sound like there was no access to ultrasound technology prior to 2013, so he did the ladies a solid by signing that legislation.
That guy. No. It is not some "cool" thing. Medical staff should not be putting anything up my vagina unless it's medically indicated.
Although I guess I am a little surprised abortions can be done without a sonogram? Can blood tests tell you how far along the fetus is? Or just if they can't see it with an abdominal sonogram? I probably just need to read a description of a first trimester abortion.

after 8ish weeks you can see the baby via abdominal it just isn't going to show the details that you want if you are checking the pregnancy for viability. For the purposes of making an abortion safe it's fine, it can give you a visual and confirmation of location (i.e. not tubal)

That's what I was wondering, if it was that or just no ultrasound at all. Thanks!
