What the FUCK to her not only reading your text messages, but then having the gall to have conversations about those texts with coworkers. Menial tasks until the end of eternity.
SHE READ YOUR PERSONAL TEXT MESSAGES AND SHARED THAT INFORMATION WITH OTHER PEOPLE?!?!?!??
No. Sending her scut work is NOT ENOUGH. Report her to her supervisor.
Yeah, I feel like dismissing her behavior as just being "clueless" is naive. Even if she read the information over your shoulder and didn't purposefully snoop, she'd have to have an iq of 70 not to realize that information wasn't for her to know AND THEN SHARE.
Yeah, you should take this to HR. I mean, she admitted to reading your text messages and then gossiping about what she read. That sounds like something HR would take pretty seriously.
Umm....I don't care if there are cultural differences, reading someone's texts over the shoulder or snooping is not okay and I would absolutely tell her supervisor/HR.
I probably would go to HR (or if you have no HR, your managers or whoever can get shit done) and let them know that your coworker spread private health information that you 1) did not even tell her about and 2) certainly did not give her permission to share. And I'd want to know what they plan to do about that since you feel your privacy has been severely violated.
ETA - just saw your update. I'm glad you said something, sorry she put you in this position!

Yeah, I really can't believe she admitted it like it was no big deal. I understand being "young and dumb" but this is not one of those times and it crossed a major line. What is wrong with people? I'm sorry you're having to deal with this crap and I'm sure you have lots of tasks to keep her busy.
Yikes. I have accidentally learned info about coworkers before, and I have never even mentioned it to them let alone repeat it to everyone else at work!
I hope she gets punished by HR in tr appropriate manor.
I had something similar happen. I didn't report the person but I wish I had. She already had a lengthy file, but I was not in a good place and didn't want to deal with her.
She found out that I was pregnant with twins ( I had spoken to a patient's father about the issues my doc was seeing with my twins and his wife mentioned it innocently the next time they were in, not realizing I still hadn't told anyone) and blabbed it to all my colleagues. It was still during the time that I was being told that I might miscarry Henry and that it looked like Jack had some issues that we might not have been okay with.
People need to STFU and mind their own business. ESPECIALLY when they are doing shady stuff like reading text messages!!

I'm shocked she got close enough to you to read your texts without you knowing (unless you have a Jitterbug with the font turned to GIANT). What a crazy pants!
For the fact you work IN HR... I can't expect her career in HR will last long if she really doesn't understand why this is just SO wrong. What an amazing invasion of privacy and confidentiality.
