I have to get surgery on my ankle on Tuesday. I can't even finish out the school year. Please tell me I'll be fine afterwards and I'll be able to swim, bike and run! I'm pissed, sad and scared.

I broke my tibia my fibular and some other random bone in my ankle, I also had some pretty serious tendon damage. I hade a surgical repair involving plates and screws. The first few months were rough, but I was running on it within nine months of the surgery. It was over three years ago now, the scar is barely noticeable. I don't really have any physical limitations except I don't walk barefoot because of heel pain.

You'll be fine! It will be a long couple of months at first, and they'll likely have you stay non- wt bearing for the first few (up to 6) weeks. I definitely recommend getting a Roll-About (knee walker) to make your mobility easier. Then you'll probably have to go thru some PT to help gain back your strength and ankle range of motion. Don't try to rush things- and you'll do great! Good Luck!
Ah joenali I promise you'll be ok, sweet girl. Regardless of the outcome ability-wise, you will completely make a new, better normal after completion. Knowing this, you focus on keeping the best mental attitude you can!
I think a patient's mental state has so much impact on physical healing. When you start to feel yourself getting down, remember that, & focus on the positives. And the fact that you're going to conquer this, because I know you can!

Yes, they are ordering me a scooter thing and I will be getting PT as soon as possible.
I've had a LOT of orthopedic surgery. Take your pain meds as prescribed and don't try to tough it out. Trying to control pain after it gets too high takes longer and more meds. Follow the surgical instructions to the letter.
Oh, and pick up some stool softener and start taking it very soon after surgery!
