One of our vacuum cleaners just died (it was 14 years old, cheap and didn't work well, so I'm surprised it lasted this long). We're debating whether we should spend $200 to buy a replacement one (of better quality than the last one) or just suck up and lug our dyson up and down the stairs. We live in a 3 level home. The replacement vacuum would be kept on the top level where our bedrooms are.

We have one vacuum with a two-story home. I'd love to have another one so I could keep a vacuum on each level as well as one specifically to do the stairs, but that seems sort of wasteful to me.

We have a 2-story home (we're renting), and we have two vacuums. If I didn't have such a sucky back-degenerative disk disease-I would probably be fine with having one vacuum, but:
a. My back sucks. I can't be lugging the Dyson up and down the stairs every day. b. We have two kids thus far, and a beagle. If I didn't run the vacuum upstairs and downstairs every day, the carpet would look REALLY bad. c. We keep the Dyson upstairs (our dog spends most of his time there), and we keep the Hoover downstairs by the basement steps.
The Hoover wasn't all that expensive...something around $100. It was definitely worth it.
We have two only because we each owned a good one before we were married. When one dies, we will not replace it and go down to only one. We have a three level home.
1. Also a 3 level home but the basement is unfinished. I have considered getting a lighter vacuum as a replacement, but not as an addition. We have a Dyson animal but hardwoods and I think there's probably a better model out there for us.
2 levels, main level and finished basement. I currently own a Dyson and a small stick vac. I end up hauling the Dyson downstairs because the stick vac doesn't work well down there. I am going to buy a cheaper bagless to live in the basement in order to save my arm.

We have 3, 2 sorry home and basement so I guess 3 levels. We have a Dyson that is on the 2nd floor, a shark for the main floor that I hate but gets the job done, and a stick vacuum that I love .

I have a whole house vac but I usually only use it on the first floor and I have an upright vacuum that I keep and use upstairs. Before I moved into a house with a house vac, I vacuumed two floors with just the one upright vacuum.
