Gift ideas for 8yo boy

Interests - Star Wars, lego,  Harry Potter, geeky stuff? lol

Previous gifts have been Star Wars stuff and chemistry sets

My SIL is a shopaholic so I feel like he has every Star Wars lego set going. Need something different.

I thought of a model plane kit but the paints aren't included so it ends up being $$$.

Any ideas? I looked into prices for museums etc around here but to get the whole family a pass would be so expensive.

Other idea was to take him to play mini golf with H and I. Thoughts?

When I was growing up, I got a lot of book tokens (gift cards), is he too young for that? Like either to TRUS or a bookstore?

A book? SS (who just turned 9) likes the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

Something to play with outside in the summer like a sprinkler or slip and slide?

My DS loves to get gift cards to TRU. He also likes Pokemon cards, transformers, legos, etc.

My kids 6, but thinks he is 9, and my actual 9 year old love snap circuits, as do their friends, if he doesn't have them. The basic kit is great, and the bigger ones, all the better.

My 6 year old is 1/2 throughout the wimpy kids, so if you go with books, I would ask. There is a wide range of ages for reading (my 9 year old likes them too, but some of her friends are way past that).

They also like the beat the parents game, time line games, twister, operation, and any kind of quirt gun.

DS is 8 and loves gift cards - bookstore, GameStop (video game store) or iTunes/Google Play if he has a device.

He also loves Pokemon cards or Nerf weapons.

My nephew just turned 8 last week. Here is his list:
K'nex, sleeping bag, glow stars for wall, a bunch of Disney Infinity characters, stomp rockets, "big kid books."

Minecraft lego... Gave my eight year old nephew this at Christmas and he loved it. Or at least that's what I was told.

My current go-to gifts for that age are The Dangerous Book for Boys and The Daring Book for Girls. My 8 year old got the Daring Book for Girls for her 8th birthday and LOVES it.
