I recently purchased new sofas for my livingroom. I love them and they fit well in my room but I am regretting my color/fabric choice. I have been stuck in brown and tan phase. I choose a dark green sofa to inspire me to get out of the brown rut but now I am having a hard time decorating the rest of the room and choosing a paint color that is not beige.. I am currently likeing rusty red and oranges to accent but I am trying to bring in a modern flair and it sometimes feels too Christmasy. I am desprate for opinions and suggestions. Here is the sofa color is Basil

We have the exact same sofa and love seat, but it is in a brown/tan fabric. Sorry I can't suggest anything useful, but I have found a lot of great stuff on houzz.com also. I hope that you get inspired.
It looks like an olive color so I would stick with warm or neutral colors. A light tan, cream, or white color on the wall would look nice. Modern design has a lot of white or near white walls right now. They are easy to decorate around and will make the room feel nice and bright even with a big, heavy dark piece like that. Check out the Little Green Notebook blog. She had a vintage sofa reupholstered with a green velvet and has white walls. I love her taste.
Personally I would worry about the wall color last. Find a rug, curtains, pillows, a piece of art, or accessories with a color scheme you like first. There are thousands of paint colors that could work so go with your limiting factors first. For example you could go with a rug like this one from PB:
It has similar green tones and accents of red (note it looks more vibrant in person than online). You could get some patterned pillows that have the same red color and then find a paint color similar to the light gold or tan color in the rug. The curtains could be a cream to keep everything nice and light. Then just get accessories staying with the same colors of the rug.
