Yes, really. I had two in college and loved them Now my kids aren't infants anymore and I want to have a family pet, but something lower maintenance than a dog or cat. A local pet place just got a new litter in and we reserved one of the babies. They are still nursing, so we'll be able to pick him/her (they haven't been sexed yet) up in about 2 weeks.
I can't wait!!
For those who don't know what I am talking about, this is a hedgehog. They're so cute
Fun!! I always though hedgehogs were pretty high maintenance, don't they have a complicated diet?
Dry cat food and occasional fruit and crickets for treats. That's all (you can get crickets at any pet store)
LOL, a lot of people ask if we're naming it Sonic. I would love to, but I'm letting my DDs name, so it will probably be something like Belle, Ariel, or Flynn lol

Very cool. I was looking into one, but we ended up with bunnies instead And lol at the Disney names, my girls are the same haha
My 8 year old wants a hedgehog. Tell me all about it.
It's similar to any other small pet, i.e. hamster, guinea pig, etc.; a 2x2 enclosure, nothing with a wire bottom or their feet will get stuck. I am using a clear tupperware bin with holes for ventilation drilled in, but you can buy something that works.
Bedding: pine bedding is fine, just not cedar. They can use a litterbox in the tank.
Food: dry cat food for a staple, fruit or crickets for treats.
They like a little pet igloos or some warm shelter and a wheel to run on (again, solid and no wire for foot safety.)

DD's friend has one. It somehow managed to tear it's eyes but it is still alive. The photo was disgusting and I didn't know animals could do that to themselves. They are super cute though.
