He doesn't have a vaporizer. I assume they sell those at the weed stores? I don't have a medical MJ license, can I buy one?
If you have smoke shops they have vaporizers for "tobacco": a brand called launch box is a good one, it runs about $150 in the shops. Amazon has them for $90--- you know---for tobacco. Eta: because it's labeled as tobacco product, you don't have to worry about weed licenses. Oh and you will need a grinder for the MJ if you're going the vaporizer route. That's cheap though, you can get one for $5-7. I mean you CAN spend a lot, but you don't need to.
I'm going to ask DH's friend to go with me tomorrow, he'll know what to get. He can also show me how to grind it up because SWEAR TO GAWD I don't know how. Is it just like a mortar and pestle?
I'm sorry His. Can they give him calories via liquids/IV? I know it's not the same, but it's something.
I never thought of that! Thank you! I'll call the doc tomorrow and ask. Do you know - would this be something we could do at home? DH has a chest port.
It is worth a call. My dad had a port and we learner how to give him his tpn bags. We hooked him up and let it drip all night.

I'm soooo lame.
I wish you lived in FL, my husband already volunteered to help you thinking you lived here. Grinding is easy.its a little container, you put the MJ at the top, close it, twist the top (like a pepper grinder) and the fine MJ falls to the bottom which you then put in the vaporizer.
I just don't like the drastic change in his health. He was perfectly fine Monday night. Yesterday was the 1st day and he was fatigued when we got home, didn't have much of an appetite but wasn't throwing up. Today was his 2nd/last day and everything started going downhill this morning.
He's sleeping now.
This sounds very familiar. Hopefully another day or so and he gets better.
I just want to hug you. Please pm me if you want to talk.
Oh his I'm sorry! Does he have better days after the lows?
I really don't know what to tell you. My mom hated the nausea more than anything else she experienced and there was little to nothing you could do to make her eat more on the bad days.

I'm sorry, that sucks. I hope the side effects get better. When my mom was getting radiation she would get so exhausted and wouldn't feel like eating, the nurse suggested ensure. Does his hospital have a nurse line? You could always call them and ask for suggestions too. They are usually very nice and helpful.
To clarify, the ensure was to help give her nutrients since she wasn't eating enough or anything. And maybe the nurses will have suggestions about how to calm the nausea.

I didn't read all the replies do sorry if this is a repeat.
I was just in the hospital and had trouble eating. They were going to put in a picc line iv ( this can stay in for months). Then I would have been able to feed myself at home with liquid nutrition through the picc line. I didn't have to go this route but maybe you can ask about it for your dh?
I am so sorry you are both going through this and i hope your dh feels better soon.

And I second the ensure. If he can't handle milk products, they have ensure clear which is full of vitamins and has some protein in it. It is pretty tasty and probably much easier to ER down than food.

I am pretty new around here, so I hope you don't mind me chiming in! When my MIL had days like your H is having the only thing she could keep down was mashed potatoes. It didn't make a whole lot of sense, because she was having trouble with even ginger ale, but mashed potatoes with just a little pit of butter eaten in very small spoonfuls would stay down almost all of the time. Good luck!
I tried my brother's vaporizer once, and I hate pot... It's the only way I have ever liked it. I hope it works for him! And, I'm pretty sure they got theirs online as well.

I'm so sorry. I mostly lurk here, but I had horrible morning sickness when pregnant (like couldn't keep anything down and almost ended up in the hospital with dehydration). San Pelligrino water was a godsend at the time. It has almost no taste and the bubbles helped settle my stomach. Maybe try this if dehydration is a concern? I second the mashed potatoes. I lived off of them for several weeks. For some reason they would stay down. I hope it gets better soon! Hang in there!

I'm so sorry. I had chemo as a teen and didn't eat. I lost a ton of w eight and had to have nutrition through an iv(called tpn). It is better to get nutrition through your stomach itself but sometimes when you can't or won't do it that way, they can do tpn. I don't see why he couldn't get it at home, but it would probably require visits from a home health nurse. Good luck.

My mom got an additional medication each round of chemo to help with the nausea and it was awesome. I'll double check with my dad. He may know some other good ones.F
