What is everyone up to lately? Anything exciting? Anything to report?
QOTW: Do you follow the news from your home country? If so, how: newspaper subscriptions (yes, I am old school enough to consider that) or online newspapers, local television stations/live streaming, Facebook, Twitter?

Hi. I'm in the midst of doing tons of house stuff. We're moving in with my MIL in one week from tomorrow so we've been painting, moving crap, building IKEA furniture, etc. We're getting work done on our house in July. It's been crazy. And I'm getting excited to go to NYC for a week in July.
QOTW: I check in once in a while with the NY Times but mainly find things out through friends' feeds on Facebook.
Hello! Not a great day here, we have to put my 22 year old cat to sleep this morning. Other than that just working and counting down the days until we move.
QOTD: I keep up with news from everywhere I've lived via facebook pages and newsletters.
We closed on the sale of our house last week and it's a big relief to have that done. In a way it hasn't really sunk in that I no longer have a home in the States though. DH makes the permanent move to London on Sunday morning and we'll have to learn how to share a much smaller flat. Wish us luck
Congrats on the house sale and your H moving over! How long have you been apart?
My kids' school shut down this week because of overblown MERS fears. I'm praying it reopens Thursday or Friday. I'm not ready for them to be home all day!
QOTD: I used to have an economist subscription but now I just scan a few websites because I dont have enough time to do otherwise. I'm embarrassingly uninformed now. We do get a bit of US news on the radio though. Just the top stories though.
Nothing really exciting going on here. Actually, maybe that's not true. I've made a few friends who I think might be real friends that last, so that's nice.
I read the Atlantic and NY Mag online almost every day. The rest of my info comes from here or my H.

I actually met these women through Internations which is like an expat networking thing. It was a "you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince" type situation, but it was worth a lot of awkward small talk to meet 2 women I now hang out with regularly.
What is everyone up to lately? I have just been hunkered down trying to keep things together on the home front for the past few weeks because H has been OOT. So basically work, keeping DD out of trouble, and sleep.
Anything exciting? I am going to the US next week!!! It is for work and I won't get to see my family, but I am still super excited. It will be my second trip home in 20 months.
Anything to report? Nada. Um, it is really freaking hot and humid here. 8:30P and 93* with 68% humidity. Gross.
QOTW: Do you follow the news from your home country? Yes, at least at a high level. If it is on CNN or BBC then I generally see it.

That's exciting. Actually, I have met a few ladies lately that I get along with really well. We share some common interests, have kids who are relatively the same age, and our Hs get along. It almost doesn't seem real.

So sorry for your loss. Hugs.
Thank you. Now of my 4 cats, there is only 1 left. He is 16 years old.
I worked today, then came home and was inexplicably irritable with H. I baked brownies to make up for being a bit of a bitch, so I think I'm in the clear.
Our mortgage paperwork went through, so now we just wait on the solicitors to do their, er, soliciting? She told H that we can expect to exchange contracts in 10 days, which seems super sudden. There were a few issues we wanted to clear up before we sign anything, but I'm not sure when we're supposed to do that. We'll probably call them tomorrow and ask.
QOTW: I keep up with news via the BBC website, there is a section for the US specifically. And I also keep an eye on social media, a lot of my friends tend to post news articles and talk about current events quite a bit. Of course, all the big stuff gets reported over here anyway. I don't keep up a whole lot with local news from my hometown, but I really should.

I wish I had exciting things to report, but I've just been plodding along. We've put up new curtains on almost every window. I still have three panels left to hem, but then all the lace sheers that feel apart in the wash will have been replaced by sheers with sparkles. I really love the sparkles.
QOTW: I keep up with news through local tv news and newspapers Twitter feeds. I also keep track of national news via The Daily Show, though big national stories are reported on the tv news here. I used to get a couple of newsweeklies from the US and Canada, but I discontinued those subscriptions when I moved.
Mostly just work for me, but the boy toy is town for about a week because we have tickets to the Foo Fighters tonight with a friend. I also need to dust off an old talk that I'm supposed to give at a conference next week, and that's making me nervous for no legitimate reason. I wanted to practice it over the weekend, but I'm self conscious about doing it while he's around, because I think he'll tease me. Or try to be supportive. When really I'd just rather be left alone to get through it.
QOTW: I usually feel like most US news is pretty irrelevant to me. If it isn't, it will probably be picked up by the Norwegian news outlets anyway, and then I'll go look up more information if I want it in English. Anything else gets to me via Facebook, so I know a lot about the problems with public education in Indiana because of a few high school friends who are now teachers.
