I actually like that light fixture a lot. I think it was a good choice. BUT I think saying that because they now have overhead lighting they don't need a lamp is not a good thing to say to readers. OH lighting is harsh and lamps or other light sources are usually super important to make a room feel good. I know they're not professionals but with all the books they read I'm sure they know that.
Also, you know she googles YHL and checks her track backs, so yeah, they'll find us here.

Well, typically this is true in downlights, but not necessarily in surface mounted fixtures. This fixture is actually really nice because in addition to the direct light, which is softened by a lens (so you're not really getting any glare), you're getting an indirect component which is lighting the ceiling and adding a soft glow to the room. And I think it's nice for that space, which shouldn't be as bright as the main kitchen preparation areas.
Don't get me wrong, I hate when people think they can be lighting designers, but in this case I think it's ok to not have another fixture.
I highly doubt anyone who goes into your bedroom A. Reads YHL and B. Even if they do read it, recogise the light and think of YHL and think "Hey she copied them!"
I'm bummed they used the same light fixture in their kitchen that I just put in my bedroom. Now everyone will think I copied them. Hrmp.
I hope the overlap between people who read YHL and people who frequent your bedroom is a relatively low number. I like the fixture. And I rarely like anything they do, LOL.
Actually, now all of us know it's in your bedroom. So you have us to worry about!
And I really do like this light fixture. I just don't like that they said "now that we have an OH lead we don't need a lamp anymore." It's really impossible to tell in pictures if lighting is great or not. But in general that's not a great rule. And judging by their comments they have a ton of people that hang on every word they say.
IT'S IRRESPONSIBLE, THE WAY THEY WIELD THEIR POWER!
i love it. if/when i have kids i'm totally copying. they can play in sand at the beach, but at home we can have some semblance of clean. i like that younger kids can pick up the rocks too, as it helps build fine motor skills (i think they pointed that out in the post).
Ahh yes. With a little YHL bashing this is officially home!
I wonder if all of the lights in their current house are off-center to the rooms/ nearest features because almost ALL of the pics show them off center. Then S says "oh whoops, I *promise* it's centered" ........ um, so why don't you just go snap another pic that shows it instead of writing disclaimers for your crappy photography in every post?!
A small thing, but it really annoys me lately.
OH and another- did we already discuss the rock box?! What kind of freaky-protective-wannabe-crunchy parents don't RESEARCH sandbox sand before they buy and dump a crap ton into a sandbox?? If they'd gone with rocks right off the bat that'd be one thing, but they totally filled that sucker with a LOT of sand, and then promptly removed it because they did exactly zero research. C'mon!
(ooooh I'm a little snarky this morning. Need more coffee)
