We recently had an issue with the cable in our BR. Cable company checked the signal and it was fine so our only option was to check the wiring in the walls. H bought a new cable and had a hard time coupling and pulling the cable out. Thought it was because it was in the baseboards and had to go around corners.
So H decides to remove baseboards to see what's up. Sure enough one of the baseboard nails was in the cable. The answer to both our eventual lack of signal in the BR and why he couldn't just pull it through. New wire is in but now our baseboards are a mess and might need replacing.
::sigh:: Thanks previous owner. You must be an awesome contractor based on all the crap we've been left with replacing and fixing. Thank you.
Dude, I totally understand. I want to shake the previous owners of our house and ask "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!" Now I know why the house was empty for an entire year. It was owned by morons.

Our previous owners were actually really sweet, and very helpful. BUT, they painted the trim in the dining room dark green, and the trim in the bedroom dark blue, and for that I wanted to strangle the life out of them.
I completely understand. The previous owner put on the addition in the back of our house. Yeah, the one window is totally crooked. I didn't notice when looking at the house because they hung the curtain rods straight.

We came home one night to the furnace blasting and the thermostat not telling the furnace to shut off so it was like 85 degrees.
We hit the emergency kill switch and started thinking about how much money this was going to cost since we didn't know if it was the thermostat, the furnace, the wires...
Upon investigation, DH found that the flippers' had put a staple through the thermostat wire on it's run across the basement ceiling to the furnace.
Beaglechon, that's the problem. This was a contractor who thought *very* highly of himself. Wait until you see my kitchen cabinets. He insisted on not painted prior to selling even though the REA agent wanted him to. We got a good amount knocked off the price just because we knew we would have to redo the kitchen. Even she agreed.

Was it freehand? That would make it better, right? Blech. Makes some of what I've painted over and fixed look like NBD.
Yep. Some "artist named Reynaldo" did the work. The previous owner would not shut up about the damn things. Looks like a 12 yo art project. My H wants to burn them and piss on the ashes.
The woman we bought our house from lived there by herself most of the time (her husband pretty much abandoned her to go fishing 7 days a wee)k. The master bedroom was painted forest green, had forest green painted trim, forest green carpet and forest green wallpaper. AND she nailed white picket fence all around the perimeter of the room. Oh and forest green curtains. It was pretty horrid. Other "special touches" she did..... plantation shutters in the family room which were nailed shut 3 kinds of wallpaper in the guest bathroom she glued rope around the top of the backsplash in the kitchen which is still decorated with apple wallpaper and birdhouse border (this is our last project and will most likely take and entire gutting). painted the concrete patio with the leftover forest green paint from the bedroom And......her cat used the corner of the living room for a litterbox and of course there was no litterbox there. Sorry for the novel!

Yeah.... our previous owner idiot lives across the street from us now We've never actually met him because he ducks inside so fast when he sees us. I think he must be embarrassed. After we moved in and our (other idiot) inspector missed almost everything, we found out that he'd cut corners on ....well....everything. Our A/C unit wasn't even installed properly and was apparently a huge fire hazard. He didn't even spring for a fire door to the garage and just put a cheap interior door there! So much wrong...so much.
We're also finding a lot of fun things from our previous DIY owner. Some things are cool (built in tv stand, swing bookcase and desk in the upstairs room into the angled ceiling. You open the hinged bookcase and can store things behind it!) but some are just awful.
Luckily, almost everything was painted white before we moved in, sans puke-yellow kitchen and lavender closet in the master bedroom (?).
