Probably just depends on availability. I can see rooms being booked a year out depending on time of year i.e. peak season. That's not to say that there will never be anything available sooner than a year; its a lot of variables that cannot be succinctly answered with True or False.

haha thanks KCD. H and I wanted to go before next summer (Maybe even this winter depending) but his buddy made it seem like it could only be booked a year in advance. I dunno when their peak season is but I'll start looking.
Have a ton of fun! I only wish that when K and I went to Oahu a couple of years ago after he returned home from deployment that I had more seriously looked into the mil resort. It looks really nice and is right on the beach. But we went with another couple who are non-mil and wanted to stay in the same hotel; we still had a great time.

Thanks KCD. We want to start TTC soon after he gets back, but I also want to go to Hawaii before kids ....now we are trying to figure out how to do both. I'm a big excursion junkie and if I can't do any while pregnant or newly pregnant then we need to decide which is more important.
I've heard great things about the Mil resort. I plugged in random dates and it appears they still have availability. I may see if ITT has a relationship with them too. We may want to stay on one of the smaller islands for a day. But TBH airfare will be our biggest kicker. Where we are currently is going to cause at least 2 layovers and Delta is the only fricken airline at our little airport and I really dislike them.
We stayed there every couple of months when we lived on Oahu. We never had a problem getting a room. The only time I booked several months in advance was for the Honolulu marathon.
I went a few yeard ago, so things may have changed...but I only booked our room at the Hale Koa a couple months out. It was the last weekend of December - which I thought would be a busier month, but I had no issues.
Yeah, airfare can be a real kick in the teeth. We live in VA and got an amazing deal on airfare, hotel, and car rental through Expedia. I think we paid less than $3k for a 7 night stay all packaged up. And lucked out with only one layover on the way out, straight from Atlanta to Honolulu. The longest flight I had ever been on; thank goodness for inflight movies!

I'm a lurker here but never have had an issue getting a room. We will stay there with the kids every few months as a little "stay-cation" Depends on the time of year of course. RIMPAC just ended and you couldn't get a room for anything during that time. I always have better luck calling directly rather than trying to book through the website.
