We are waiting on a lot of things before we do our kitchen reno (paperwork, waiting for contractor to finish some commitments, elevator work in our building, etc.) and it could be months before we even get to choose our new appliances. I hate our current DW. It's seriously from the dinosaur era. All dishes essentially need to get rinsed beforehand and everything has to be just so for it to do its job. I want to get our new DW now and not wait for the reno. DH thinks that's a crazy idea and told me I was being impatient.
Do you already have the plans for the reno? I think if you already have some idea of what you want and that it will fit in the new kitchen then I would totally get a new one now.
*I* would get one now, but I really don't care if appliances match perfectly, I'm out for quality/low price. SO, that depends on your end goal. Do you want perfectly matching appliances? Are you ok with spending whatever it takes to make them match? (If not, just wait, you'll probably end up getting a sweet deal on an entire kitchen worth of appliances!)
I would/am waiting, but I'm not happy about it. Probably for another year or so. To me it does make more sense to do it all at once. When the time comes, our dishwasher and I are going out back with a baseball bat for a chat.

Assuming you know what appliance finish you're going with, I'd just do it now. What is his reason for wanting to wait? Are you planning to keep it in the same spot?
You may be able to get a better deal on the appliances if you buy them all together, like a package deal. That would be the only reason that I would wait, especially if your dishwasher still works (just not as well as you want).

If my dishwasher was that craptastic, I'd be buying a new one ASAP. As long as it's the same finish as you'll end up going with in the long run, it won't make a difference.
Get one now. Nothing sucks more than a crappy dishwasher...but understand that you'd have to work your reno around it, so try to pick something that will potentially be fine when the time comes to redo it all.
