So I'm going to Chicago next weekend and plan to do some shopping but I would really like to shop in stores that we don't have here in TN. For references my normal go to stores are: Gap, JCrew, The Limited, Loft, etc...
So I need suggestions on where to shop. I know I want to go in H&M and Zara but do you girls have any more suggestions? I will be staying in the Magnificient Mile area...
Would you be willing to wonder over to State Street? There's Akira there (also a Zara, Nordstrom Rack, and H&M; I prefer the State St locations bc there's a bit less shopped). shopakira.com
Perchance is a cute, but pricey boutique in Gold Coast. www.perchanceboutique.com/ Sara Jane is a bit father in Old Town but has some cute stuff. shopsarajane.com
Sure. How far is State Street from Michigan Avenue?
They run parallel and are within walking distance if I remember correctly from my pre suburb days. I prefer all the department stores on Michigan like saks.

You could walk if you want... it would be a long walk.
Or you could hop on the red line and go 2 stops south from michigan ave shopping (either Chicago or Grand stops to either Lake or Monroe stops)
I tend to prefer the state street area too because it's not so insane, but I live downtown. It has fewer choices than Michigan Ave, but there is H&M, zara, steve madden, huge macy's, forever 21, sephora, ulta, a bunch of shoe stores, nordstrom rack, etc.
Michigan ave has more stuff and more high-end stuff, but it is definitely busier. You could hit up water tower place that is like a mini-mall too

You can also take the red line to the Fullerton stop (or the purple/brown line to Armitage) and walk south on Halsted and there are a ton of boutiques - Barney's Co-op, Club Monaco, BCBG, and a bunch of other places that I can't remember.
Also just a couple blocks from Michigan (near Water Tower Place) is Rush St. There's a bunch of boutiques (many high-end) there and around there up and down Rush and the side streets (Marc Jacobs, Diesel, Tory Burch, Bhldn, Penguin, Hermes, Prada, etc etc etc). There's also the 900 shops which is where the Bloomingdales is, Water Tower Place where there is a Macy's, and Shops at North Bridge where the Nordstrom is.
If you check out the 900 Shops at North Bridge, also check out the AIBI (Apparel Industry Board of IL) store to check out local designers.
If you are venturing out into other neighborhoods, Old Town like HZ mentioned is great, Sara Jane and Handle with Care are nice boutiques, and there are others, also a Nicole Miller store. On Southport between Belmont and Addison there's Cerato, and Krista K, Perchance, Anthro, and others. That's off the brown line at the Southport stop.
Oh my gosh!!! You guys have such awesome shopping! I'm super jealous! (not of the sales tax, but definitely your array of awesome stores!!). I also live in TN, and it sucks here.
