This is a XP from thenest...I didn't realize everyone had left!
I'm in the middle of decorating our nursery and can't decide what to do with a great dresser that I found at consignment. The dresser is solid walnut and incredibly well made, but the stain will not work in our room and some of the hardware will need replacing (I'll probably refinish the hardware from the bottom drawers and replace the top drawer knobs completely).
Dresser:
Crib (in off-white):
Room Color (SW Colonnade Gray):
All white?
Stain just the top?
I feel a tad guilty painting it since it's in such great condition, so staining is an option also.
If it makes a difference in your answer, the dresser is Henredon (very high quality) and I snagged it for a mere $170 :-D TIA!
I say stained top. Stained tops are a lot more forgiving when it comes to nicks and scratches and tops get the more abuse than any part of the dresser. The painted with stained top look evolved for a reason.
While I think painting it would be great to go with your other furniture, I couldn't bring myself to paint such a high quality piece! You definitely scored! I just googled and found similar pieces for $600 and up. More the reason I wouldn't paint it. If I were you I would find a cheaper dresser from CL to paint.
