DH is going away to his Big Event the first week of August, give or take. I'd like to do a long weekend with DD. I'm looking for any and all ideas of something we can do together that won't break the bank. I'd love to get out of town, but it's not a requirement. RockNVoll, I wish summer tickets to London were cheap!
So far my ideas are: Ogunquit (she loves the beach, and I went there solo last September) Kennebunkport (the Franciscans run a reasonably priced hotel there) Baltimore (I haven't been in forever, and train tickets are nearly half the price of airfare, but we'd have to add car/hotel) Portsmouth (haven't priced out hotels yet, nor have I figured out what we'd do all day) Stowe, VT (again, haven't been in forever, but there's a lot DD and I could do)
Of those, my vote would be Ogunquit or Kennebunkport. The Ogunquit beach can get SUPER crowded in the summer but may not be so bad mid-week.
My favorite local summer destinations are the Cape and the Berkshires. Last summer, I did a fun little road trip with my mom and teenage sister through Vermont - we hit Montpellier, Ben & Jerry's, Burlington, the Shelburne Museum and Middlebury. We just did an overnight but with a bit more time, you could easily hit Stowe, Woodstock and more, too.
