Hi ladies. I have to draw up room plans (or floor plans, whatever they're called) for my living room and family room. For some reason I'm finding this a very daunting task and I can't wrap my head around an easy way to do it. From what I can tell, I have to measure every part of both rooms, including doors and windows. I have to do this because I'm receiving a bunch of furniture and a decorator is supposedly going to look at the plans I draw up and help me figure out where to put the stuff. I guess I have to draw where my current furniture is as well.
Does anyone have tips to make this project as easy as possible? I googled around a bit but didn't find much that clicked with me.
The two ways I hear about are either software or using graph paper. If the decorator doesn't have access to the software, the graph paper is going to be fine.
I'm pretty sure I have a few books on sketching out floor plans (can't remember what I've read in books, and what I've read online). I can look through them.
My advice, measure two or three times (depending on if the first two measurements match). I know it sames like overkill, but it's amazing how many times you can be "off". A triple check is a good confirmation.

Can't take your poop couch off your hands, sorry! Lol.
All the furniture has to be out of my grandma's apartment by the end of this month and I'm helping to give a bunch of it a "home". I know, I know. I should have said NO but there's a lot of family drama tied up with the whole thing. We'll just leave it at that.
It's difficult to answer that. I like 2 things and MH only likes 1. And we are taking about 10 things. So....... yeah. I don't HATE anything. It's good quailty, expensive stuff. And once I see some of it in our house, there's the possibility that it could look nice. There's also the possibility that it will look like total shit and make my house look even less cool and modern than it already is. I'm really confused about the whole thing and it's just gonna be a learning experience, I guess.
I'm gonna buy some graph paper today. I also signed up at floorplanner.com so maybe that will help but I'm not sure.

Wish us luck!!
Good luck! Hope everything works out. I'm really tired of a lot of my furniture right now. A lot of the things that worked in our condo, don't work in the house. Unfortunately, I'm indecisive when it comes to furniture.
Maybe some of the pieces could get a "facelift" if they're solid, just not quite your style. It's amazing what a coat of paint, or new hardware, covers on pillows, etc can do
