Our family room has an angled ceiling that is one story on one side and about 1.5 stories on the other. In the middle of the shorter wall is a window and out of necessity because of its size, the TV is directly across from the window, against the taller wall.
On the far end of the room is a fireplace and on the near end is the entrance to the kitchen.
The problem is what to put on the huge wall next to and above the TV. For now we have a couple chairs. We could use bookcases but IMO, they look small and insignificant. Any suggestions?
We will be doing something like that first picture....I really don't want my TV over the fireplace so we will do some sort of gallery wall around the TV.
We had a similar problem, with one big empty wall that was vaulted like yours. It took over a year for me to figure out a plan, and I opted for a tall ladder/magazine rack, a console table with a large print over it, and then a large mirror, all side by side. Above my TV on the shorter wall, I hung four canvases in a square shape.
I don't think you can go wrong with a gallery wall of frames, but I think larger frames would look best and less cluttered.

Maybe an applied moulding detail with contrasting color inside like here? This is a clubhouse photo of a community center I worked on awhile back. We also did (affordable) mirrors on the large wall on the other side...
