July GTG - Block Island?

A while back we had talked about doing a GTG day trip to Block Island the weekend of 7/25 or 7/26.

Anyone still interested in doing this?  scm1011? LoveTrains?

Yay, glad some of you are available. What day would work best for everyone? I can do either day, but would have to bring the kids along if we do Saturday, so I would probably prefer Sunday.

Once we pick a day we can take a look at the ferry schedule and decide what time to head over!

I'm thinking going out of Point Judith might be out best choice. Newport will be packed and a pain to get to, and it looks like the ferry from Fall River takes 2+ hours and only runs once a day.

From Pt Judith we could take a 9 or 11:10 am high speed ferry over which takes about half an hour.

Pt. Judith ferry is absolutely the way to go. Newport is such a cluster in the summer, the traffic is TERRIBLE.

The high speed ferry is so much better than traditional. I think its $35 for a roundtrip. It's also a smoother ride than the traditional one in case anyone gets seasick (like me).

Sunday sounds good to me, too!

I'll let you know beforehand, but I may bring S. DH is on his big pre-war push to get all of his gear in order, so I wanted to get her out of the house anyway. But I don't want to introduce a kid if people are expecting kid-free. I'll keep you posted!

For everyone else, should we try to decide on which ferry to head over on and what activities we want to do on the island. I was thinking we'd grab lunch at some point so depending on the place might need to get a reservation. I haven't really looked into what types of things to do, so feel free to throw out your ideas!
