We are having a company install a new deck and patio in back of our house. I am so excited because we signed the contract back in March and they are finally doing the work. The weeks prior to them starting we had a ton of rain. When they use their little Bobcat in our yard it left ruts and has pretty much destroyed the grass. Tomorrow is their last day of work and they have not said anything about trying to fix the yard. They did have to remove some dirt for the patio and I requested that they remove it from the back of my yard. There is now rocky clay on top of the topsoil, where I was going to put my garden.

Probably not, honestly. When we had our deck installed it was also raining. They had to back up a huge truck into our yard to drop off all the wood and it also left mud spots. Eventually it grew back in.
Not a great situation, but not much else they can do either.

Okay. I was hoping it was something they might try to fix, but it sounds like that's not common, so I won't ask. Our lawn in general is so bad right now. All the new construction neighbors have new sod, so it's looks extra terrible by comparison.
I guess we will just go buy some grass seed. It's a bummer because now my backyard is more accessible, but is so torn up. I guess it never crossed my mind that having work done would be so hard on the grass. All the "sample photos" show nice landscaping with the patio and/or decks. But if it were dryer the yard wouldn't have been so damaged.
We built last fall and waited until our concrete patio was poured in the back to start the lawn b/c of the ruts from the skidloader. DH smoothed it out and now we are starting on it.
