I have a $38 merchandise credit to Kohl's that I need to get rid of. My grandmother shops at Kohl's for DS and I returned some stuff to get him some other toys/books when a good sale came along. I don't voluntarily shop there after a pretty awful experience several years ago.
On the website they have a code for $10 off $30 or more from the "hot deals" toy section. I add $32.40 to my cart, code doesn't work. Refresh, still doesn't work. Call at 9am, they say they're having website problems. Try again in an hour. Cool, whatever. Try at 11:00, doesn't work. Call again, takes me 10 minutes to get the guy to spell the code right (he was convinced extra started with an x), add the items to the cart and get logged into my account. I ask for free shipping since I've been trying to place this order all morning and am on my second call. He says no and that he's honoring the code even though he shouldn't be. I ask him what isn't qualifying and he couldn't answer that. I had already looked up the exclusions and none of the items were in the list. I told him that I clicked directly through the link and it brought me to 243 items out of the over 8000 items listed in toys so if there's a link, surely it would already weed out non-qualifying items. He said that he was doing me a favor already and I asked to speak to a supervisor. He told me that wouldn't be necessary and launched into his talk about doing me a favor even though I have non-qualifying items. I told him it'd be necessary and he finally gave me the free shipping.
After all that, DS better like this stuff. I should've just sold the damn merchandise credit. It's been sitting since Christmas.

I used to love Kohl's but now only go there if I have the 30% off coupon. Everything is so disorganized, at least on the women's side. Good job to get your free shipping.

It gives me anxiety stepping in there with the disorganization. I now try to only shop online. If I'm in the store it's with a merchandise credit or cash, my epic incident was over their refusal to take a signed CC without an ID (against the Visa merchant agreement) and the cashier and manager talked very loudly across the rows of registers in the middle of the Christmas shopping season stating how ridiculous it was that I was putting up a stink over it. I walked out and left a couple hundred dollars worth of merchandise sitting.

It's always such a mess! My aunt gives me her Kohl's cash sometimes, and even first thing in the morning, the clothes department is a huge mess. They used to have all old lady clothes anyway, but in the past few years the Elle and Lauren Conrad lines (shut up) have had some cute stuff. But it's so messy, it's not worth even trying to shop there. Usually I just give them to DH to get Levi's, or get something from the home section.
LOL yes, yes it was. The things I do for this kid (he's getting a Tonka truck and a Thomas the Train electronic reader that has 8 books, perfect for our road trip in September!).

I refuse to shop there. It's so messy, confusing pricing and their merchandise quality is crap. The last time I went the check out lady was excited to tell me "You saved $47 on my purchase!" Um, no I didn't.
I do targeted trips to Kohl's these days. Pretty much only if I need bras, socks or jeans and when I go, I'll grey out everything else in my brain. It's always a mess but a 30% coupon does get me over a lot.

There are two Kohl's by me and they're both not messy at all. I only go when I have a 30% coupon. I've never had an issue with them. I think their "sales" are a sham, but if you shop smart, you can get good stuff.

I hate Kohls too...tried to return baby stuff...they offered me seriously 12 cents and 1.08 for things that were on their shelf for 16.00 and 24.00. Said that was the lowest selling price in system so I think they base that off of lowest price with coupons like kohl cash
I hate Kohl's. I do not understand people who love it.
Price your stuff properly, don't mark it up and then make me use 7 million coupon codes, sales, special deals and a rewards card to get the price it should have been to begin with.

Ugh, they did that to me too. The lady returning the stuff told me that somewhere in their store system it was selling for that price. I told her I wanted to know where so I could go buy clothes that cheap.

I'm a Kohl's fan, but this drives me nuts! I cringe when they hand me my receipt and say "you saved $123.86" because I didn't, and no one would ever spend that amount on those items. I hate that the JCPenney's experiment from a few years ago failed. I really liked going in, seeing a fair price, and knowing it would be that price if I was shopping at 3:00 on a Tuesday or 10:30 on a Saturday morning. But, Americans seem to prefer deals! Coupons! Sales!
OP- I'm surprised the CS person gave you any trouble. I've had issues with their website before and they always rectify the situation as soon as I contact them.

I've had terrible luck with them lately. They sent me the same wrong shirt twice. Then I placed an order for a top I really wanted but it got cancelled. I'm done with Kohls.

I was really surprised too. The first guy was awesome, the second guy...not so much.

JCP tried it... look what happened to them.
I hate needing an item and knowing you are getting hosed b/c you don't have the correct coupon/sale weekend combination.
I feel like Kohl's takes things to a new level, though. I like a sale as much as the next person, but not with a million exclusions and hoops to jump through.
Old Navy is about to go on my list, too. Don't tell me it's 40% off my entire purchase, but then in the fine print, exclude almost everything. Or exclude clearance items, and mark everything down 4 cents so that it counts as "clearance".
Agree with those that mentioned how sad they are about JC Penney's failed experiment. I want to go back to that type of pricing system everywhere. Have a legit sale once a season and be done with it. I hate the constant sales + coupon codes + whatever kind of "cash" that store uses to pay a normal price for a shirt. Ugh.
Man, I loathe Kohls. There's one about 2 miles from my office, so I sometimes pop in on my lunch hour if I need something and have no time to shop. It never fails that it takes FOREVER to find whatever I'm looking for and more often than not I leave without anything.

ANother Kohls hater here. I remember buying some stuff one Thursday afternoon. I went back for something else on Saturday and it was all on sale. I was pissed, but they honored my sale price no biggie. Until I realized that is there pricing model. Stuff is more expensive M-Th and then goes on sale the weekend.
I hate the idea of Kohls Cash, the store is a mess and I just overall hate their prizing strategy.

I don't shop there because the computer screen pricing signs stress me out. Quit spending your time (ie $$) changing prices so often and just give me a fair sales price you can stick with.
They were the only placed nearby that had four King pillows in stock. I paid $168 Tuesday. Today I check online and I can get the same ones for $100, with $20 kohls cash, and 5% discover cash back. I ordered and will return the new ones with my store receipt.
