I broke my foot a few months ago and got a brace through my ortho. I had a brace that would have worked but was a little less comfortable than what the doctor provided. I asked how much I would be charged and was told a few hundred dollars if insurance didn't cover it.
Insurance didn't cover it and I was charged $750! That is a LOT more than I was lead to believe. I would have made the other brace work if I had known how much I would have been charged.
I have done research and the cost of the brace is about $120. I am being charged more than 6 times the price of the brace!
My first level appeal through insurance got denied. I am considering doing a second level of appeal. Is there anything else I can do?
Tldr: charged $750 for a $120 brace....is there anything I can do?

I would approach billing and explain to them that the cost of the brace was misrepresented to you when you agreed to purchase it. I don't know if it will get you anywhere, but I would certainly try.
I'd talk to the doctor's office about whether there's a "cash discount". Perhaps the insurance billed amount is super high but the amount they would take if you're paying is lower?

I feel like I recently read an article on CEP about this - how some insurances have set prices for things that drive up the costs for everyone. Sorry you got caught in the trap . I hope the Dr.'s office is willing to work with you.
